4 Postproduction
This is the stage where you assemble and create the movie. Take the following steps:
- Edit the picture
- Create and composit the visual effects
- Create the titles
- Synchronise voice recordings
- Create the final sound mix (SFX, background, Foleys, ADR, dialogue, walla, music)
- Lock the movie - called the Final Cut
- Generate the Edit Decision List (EDL)
- Cut the master negative (film) or edit from the master tapes (video)
- Create an Answer Print of the movie from the master
- Duplicate the Ansewer Print to create a theatrical Release Print
- Preview the movie with the target audience and watch their reaction
- Make changes to the movie following audience feedback
5 Distribution
This is the stage where you hope to profit from making the movie. Take the following steps:
- Duplicate the movie as required for theatrical distribution
- Publish Press Kits, posters, etc. for advertising
- Advertise the movie to establish its "brand name"
- Launch the movie:
- Hold a "Launch Party"
- Issue Press releases
- Arrange interviews with the Press - issue Press Kits
- Post Press Kits to journalists
- Show the film at a Press Preview
- Show the film at Film Festivals
- Create a Web Site
- Release the movie at selected domestic Theatres
- Release the DVD a few months later
- Sell distribution rights for the movie and DVD to worldwide distributors
- Divide any profits between the distributor and the production company
