An agrarian is a person who promotes a rural, agricultural way of life. There was a group of poets in the 1930s in Nashville, Tenessee, who called themselves Agrarians, because they hoped that the South could retain its predominantly rural way of life instead of becoming mainly an industrial power like the North. This didn't happen.
