He began his involvement with revolutionary politics as a student and his first writing for the International Socialists, forerunners of the SWP, was an anlysis of the student movement of the period. Born in what is now Zimbabwe he rapidly became known in socialist and academic circles for his writings on Southern Africa and his interest in the views of French philosopher Louis Althusser.
He is a talented writer and speaker and was soon elected to the Central Committee of the SWP, a position he has retained to this day.
