Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, a state of the United States of America.

As of the 2000 census, its population is 35,838. It is the county seat of Anne Arundel County. This city is a part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. It is home to the United States Naval Academy and St. John's College.

1 History

First named Providence by the original settlers, the Puritans, the town was renamed Anne Arundel 's Towne after the wife of Lord Baltimore. The Maryland state house is the oldest in continuous legislative use in the union and it is topped by the largest wooden dome built without nails in the nation.
