Antonio Starabba, Marchese di Rudinì ( 1839 - 1908)

The Marchese di Rudinì was born on 16th April 1839 in Palermo (then the capital of The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies) into an aristocratic Sicilian family. However, his family were educated and of a more liberal disposition than many of their contemporaries. The young marchese was raised to have high ideals, this led to him joining a band of intellectual revolutionaries in 1860.

Following the annexation of Piedmont in 1864, he became Mayor of Palermo. From this office he fought for, and advocated strongly the unification of Italy.

He served as the Prime Minister of Italy between 1891 and 1892, and again from 1896Events January 4 Utah is admitted as the 45th U.
