In the May 2004 issue, the list of Blender Magazine's 50 Worst Songs Ever! was published.

The top ten songs on that list were:

  10. "Ebony and Ivory" ( Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder)

Controversy

Of course, the list is controversial. Music fans wonder why songs like ...Baby One More Time, from the Britney Spears album of the same name, were missing, pointing out that there are other more obvious or deserving targets for the "worst ever" designation than the songs chosen. Blender magazine has taken the stance that songs which unabashedly present themselves as entertainmentEntertainment Entertainment is an amusement or diversion intended to hold the attention of an audience or its participants. Some critics have decried the Blender list as an attempt to gain attention by blasting people's "old favorite" songs. For example, We Built This City was a number 1 hit at the time of its release. The Beatles were one of the most influential music groups of the rock era. Initially they affected the post and R.E.M.is a rock band formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980 by Michael Stipe (vocals), Bill Berry (drums), Peter Buck (guitar) and Mike Mills (bass). Throughout the 1980s, while signed to the independent label I. they achieved a growing cult status due mainly to Sti, had songs featured on the list.

One controversial selection was We Didn't Start the FireWe Didn't Start the Fire is a song by Billy Joel that lists major events in his lifetime, from 1949 to 1989, when the song was released on his album Storm Front''. Joel explained that he wrote this song due to his interest in history. He commented that he, which appears lower on the list. Some have argued that it exhibits creative talent and social vision that make it unworthy of inclusion on a "50 worst" list.
