Brabrand is a city 7 km west of Århus which became part of Århus in 1970. South of the city lies the lake " Brabrand Sø ", which is the largest recreational area of the County of Århus. The city was founded in the 18th century by means of burning the forest (the name reflects this), initially based mainly on farmers and associated trades.

The city has three distinct districts: Old town to the south by the lake mainly made up of single-family houses. Industrial areas by Edwin Rahrs Vej to the north, and in the eastern end the infamous Gellerup area.
