Britannia Superior (Upper Britain) was one of the provinces of Roman Britain created c. AD 197 by the Roman Emperor Septimus Severus. The governors of Upper Britain were of consular rank although few are known by name. Their capital was at Londinium.
Epigraphic evidence has shed some light on the extent of Upper Britain and it encompassed all of what is now southern England as well as Wales and East Anglia. During the early fourth centry the province was divided into Britannia Prima in the west and Maxima Caesariensis in the east.
