The British Sea Areas are officially designated regions of the waters around the British Isles and its neighbouring countries. They exist to provide a useful means of breaking down a large area of ocean into subunits for the purposes of meteorology, administration and navigation.The sea areas are familiar to most Britons through the regular broadcast of the Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4.
The areas in order, as given on the Shipping Forecast clockwise from the northeast, are:
