Brixen (German) or Bressanone (Italian) is a city in the autonomous province of South Tyrol (part of the autonomous region Trentino-Alto Adige) in northern Italy.Although rather small (population 19,000), it is an old (founded 901) and the third largest city of South Tyrol and especially well known as a major skiing ressort.
As throughout the region, the majority of the population speaks German.
Brixen, South Tyrol, should not be confused with Brixen im Thale in Northern, i.e. Austrian Tyrol.
