CBUT is the the CBC's television station in Vancouver, British Columbia, and the flagship CBC-TV station for the Pacific Time zone. CBUT is the oldest television station in Western Canada, first going on the air on December 16, 1953. Since the station's launch, CBUT has broadcasted exclusively in English. French television service was not introduced to British Columbia until 1976.
CBUT currently produces a number of CBC Television programs. The supperhour national newscast Canada NowCanada Now is a news program on the main English television network of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The show was created to replace the regular supper-hour newscasts on the CBC's owned-and-operated local television stations in 2000, as a result, hosted by Ian Hanomansing broadcasts out of CBUT, as does the local portion hosted by Gloria Macarenko. The late-night independent film program ZeDZeD is a Canadian television series which bills itself as " open-source television". The program, which airs weeknights on the CBC, airs original music, short films, animation, performance, visual art and spoken word pieces from around the world. The show is also produced at CBUT, as are portions of MarketplaceA marketplace is the space, actual or metaphorical, in which a market operates. and the program Hemispheres.
