Cathy Berberian ( July 4, 1928 in Attleboro, MA - March 6, 1983 in Rome, Italy) was a composer, mezzo-soprano singer, and vocalist.

From 1950 to 1966 she was married to composer to Luciano Berio, who deconstructed her voice in Thema (Omaggio a Joyce) ( 1958) and wrote his Circles ( 1960) and Recital I (for Cathy) ( 1972) for her. In addition Sylvano Bussotti, John Cage, Hans Werner HenzeHans Werner Henze (born July 1 1926 in Gutersloh, Westphalia, Germany) is a composer. He is well known for his sometimes controversial political beliefs. The librettist of his oratorio/requiem for Che Guevara Das Floss der Medusa (The Raft of Medusa) was and Igor StravinskyIgor Fyodorovitch Stravinsky ( June 17, 1882 April 6, 1971) was a composer of modern classical music. He wrote works in the neo-classical and serialist styles, but he is best known for two works from his earlier, Russian period: The Rite of Spring and The wrote works for her voice.

She interpreted contemporary avant-garde music, Armenian folk songs, Monteverdi, The BeatlesThe Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 as part of their first tour of the United States, promoting their first hit single there, " I Want To Hold Your Hand". The Beatles were one of the most influential music groups of the rock era. Initially they affected the post, and her own compositions.
