Clownstep is a sub-genre of the electronic music genre drum and bass. The sound is typified as having a 'wobbly' bassline and simple beat structure and/or an excess amount of swing beats. Clownstep artists include Dillinja, Twisted Individual , Fresh , Baron , Pendulum, Total science , and Clipz . The name originated from producers Dylan and Keaton, the latter actually originated the term as a description of Shimon & Andy C's single Bodyrock, due to its swingbeat inspiring an image of clowns dancing. The phrase was popularised by Dylan on renowned Drum & Bass forum Dogs On Acid . Interestingly, the phrase was censored by the moderators of said site, appearing in posts as ********* , due to its use as a pejorative term.
