Cryptosporidiosis is a mammalian disease affecting the intestines caused by Cryptosporidium, a protozoan parasite in the phylum apicomplexa. It is a disease spread through the fecal-oral route; the main symptom is self-limiting diarrhea in people with intact immune system. In immunocompromised individuals, such as AIDS patients, infection can cause permanent & life-threatening diarrhea. Despite not being identified until 1976 it is one of the most common waterborne diseases and found worldwide. The disease and parasite name are sometimes abbreviated to just Crypto. Infection is through contaminated material such as earth, water, uncooked or cross-contaminated food that has been in contact with the feces of an infected individual or animal. Contact must then be transferred to the mouthThe mouth is the opening through which an animal takes in food. It is usually located in the head, but not always; the mouth of a planarium is in the middle of its belly. Most animals have a complete digestive system, with a mouth at one end and an anus a and swallowed. It is especially prevalent amongst those in regular contact with bodies of fresh water whether through work or recreation. SymptomThe term symptom has two similar meanings in the context of physical and mental health: A symptom can be a physical condition which shows that one has a particular illness or disorder (see e. Longman, 1995). An example of a symptom in this sense of the wos appear from two to ten days after infection and last for up to two weeks or so. As well as watery diarrhea there is often stomachIn anatomy, the stomach is an organ in the alimentary canal used to digest food. Generally, the stomach's primary function is not the adsorption of nutrients from digested food; this task is usually performed by the intestine. Latin names for the stomach pains or crampA cramp is an unpleasant sensation caused by contraction of a muscle. It can be caused by cold or overexertion. Illness or poisoning can also cause cramps, particularly in the stomach, if the cause is an intestinal virus. Menstruation also is highly likels and a low feverFever also known as pyrexia is a medical symptom which describes an increase in temperature to levels which are above normal (37 degrees Celsius 98. 6 degrees Fahrenheit). An adaptive mechanism, fever is the body's reaction to pathogens; it attempts to ki. Some individuals are asymptomaticIn medicine, a disease is asymptomatic when it is at a stage where the patient does not experience symptoms. By their nature, asymptomatic diseases are not usually discovered until the patient undergoes medical tests ( X-rays or other investigations). but still infective. Even after symptoms have finally subsided that individual is still infective for some weeks. There is no cure for the disease and treatment is limited to palliative carePalliative care is any form of medical care or treatment that concentrates on reducing the severity of the symptoms of a disease or slows its progress rather than providing a cure. It aims at improving quality of life, and particularly at reducing or elim, especially the replacement of lost fluidA subset of the phases of matter, fluids include liquids and gases, plasmas and, to some extent, plastic solids. Fluids share the properties of not resisting deformation and the ability to flow (perhaps otherwise described as their ability to take on thes.

A number of species of Cryptosporidium infect mammals. In humans the main causes of disease are C. parvum and C. hominis (previously C. parvum genotype 1). C. canis, C. felis, C. meleagridis, and C. muris can also cause disease in humans.

Cryptosporidium has a spore phase ( oocyst ) and in this state can survive for lengthy periods outside a host and also resist many common disinfectants, notably chlorine based disinfectants.
