Family Theater was an old-time radio show which aired on the Mutual Broadcasting System from February 13, 1947 to September 11, 1957. It was started by a Catholic leader, Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., as a way to promote family prayer. The theme of the series was, "the family that prays together, stays together."The program had no commercial sponsor, yet Father Peyton arranged for many of Hollywood's stars in film and radio at the time to appear. In its ten-year run, famous actors and actresses such as Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Raymond Burr, Jane Wyatt, Charlton Heston, Bing Crosby, Jack BennyJack Benny (born Benjamin Kubelsky, February 14, 1894 December 26, 1974) was a comedian, vaudeville performer, film actor, and one of the most prominent early stars of American radio and television. Often cited for his impeccable comic timing, Benny was a and Gene KellyEugene Curran Kelley (born August 23, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and died February 2, 1996 in Beverly Hills, California after suffering two strokes at the age of 83), was best known as an American dancer in films, but was also an actor, singer, dire all appeared as announcers, narrators or stars.
