Fatos Thanas Nano (born September 16, 1952) is the Prime Minister of Albania, from the Socialist Party of Albania. Nano has a degree in political economy as well as a PhD in economics from the University of Tirana.Nano was born in Tirana, and he became a communist and later socialist leader. He was nominated for the post of Prime Minister by the then President Ramiz Alia in 1991, but was forced to resign after popular protests and strikes.
