The GPE Palmtop Environment or simply GPE aims to provide a Free Software GUI environment for palmtop and handheld computers running the GNU/Linux operating system. GPE uses the X Window System and the GTK+ widget toolkit. The Compaq iPAQ and Sharp Zaurus are among the currently-supported devices.GPE is not a single piece of software, but a complete environment of components which makes it possible to use a GNU/Linux handheld for tasks such as Personal Information Management (PIM). GPE also provides the infrastructure needed by developers; besides providing core software such as shared libraries, the GPE environment fixes standards for program interaction such as SQL, XML and other data schemas.
