Gascony (Gascogne in French) is a region in southwest France. It encompasses départements of Landes, Gers, and Hautes-Pyrénées and parts of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Lot-et-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne, Gironde, and Ariège. Main industries are :

- wine making
- brandy distilling
- tourism
Gascony was inhabited to a large extent by Basques. It is the home of the Gascon language.
1 History of Gascony
Local Basque clans were in Gascony lands from time immemorial.
First it was taken over by the Roman Empire, then the VisigothThe Visigoths originally Tervingi or Vesi ("the noble ones"), one of the two main branches of the Goths (of which the Ostrogothi were the other), were one of the loosely-termed " Germanic peoples" that disturbed the late Roman Empire. After the "fall" ofs, and finally it belonged to the Frankish KingdomCharlemagne or Karl der Grosse ( Charles the Great) in Frankfurt The Franks formed one of several west Germanic tribes who entered the late Roman Empire from Frisia as foederati and established a lasting realm in an area that covers part of today's France.
With its deterioration, it emerged for a time as a separate state and, in fact, has
retained even to this day a reputation for nurturing a stubborn and
independent people.
