In the Wing Commander universe, the Gladius is a family of fighters which use a common body design but differing armaments. The Gladius light fighter is a militia craft armed with two lasers, a meson gun, eight proton torpedoes for intercepting rogue Kilrathi corvettes and two heat-seeking missiles for shooting down pirates and mercenaries.
The Gladius heavy fighter is a Confederation special ops craft built in the shell of the light fighter, equipped with a weapons loadout equivalent to that of a Thunderbolt heavy fighter. This version of the Gladius is heavily equipped with dumbfire missiles, giving it a heavy forward punch.
