The HVDC Wolgograd Donnbass is high voltage direct current line between the hydro-electric power plant Wolgograd and Donnbass , which went into service in 1964. It consists of an overhead line 475 kilometers in length. The static inverters of the HVDC Wolgograd Donnbass are equipped with mercury steam electric rectifiers for a voltage of 100kV and a maximum current of 940 ampere, which were partly replaced at the beginning of the 90's by thyristor static inverters. The HVDC Wolgograd Donnbass is a bipolar HVDC with an operating voltage of 400kV. It can transfer a power from up to 750 megawatts.Source: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/HG%DC_Wolgograd-Donbass
