A hack writer is someone who writes in any language, be it computer code or spoken word, with the purpose of exposing and, in some cases, exploiting a systemic flaw. Many of these exposures have been the cause of better understanding of the attacked system, and huge advances in computing technology.

Both journalists and programmers have been referred to as hacks in popular slang. Some hack writers wrote novels that spread like wildfire, without any publicity. They had hacked the system.

Hack can also mean "understanding". Do you hack this?
