Hallam is a village located in Lancaster County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 276. On May 22, 2004, Hallam was struck, along with most of southern Nebraska, by one of a series of tornados. As every house in the village was destroyed or severely damaged, governor Mike Johanns declared Hallam a disaster area.

1 Geography

Hallam is located at 40°32'12" North, 96°47'12" West (40.536725, -96.786761) 1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

2 Demographics

As of the census 2 of 2000, there are 276 people, 110 households, and 86 families residing in the village. The population density is 666.0/km² (1,680.2/mi²). There are 118 housing units at an average density of 284.8/km² (718.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 92.39% White, 0.00% African American, 2.54% Native American, 4.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other racesThe United States Census Bureau uses the federal government's definitions of race when performing a census. There are 110 households out of which 32.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% are married couplesMarriage is a relationship that plays a key role in the definition of many families.
