In America, the network was previously known as the Faith and Values Channel, and originally broadcast religious programming only. More secular programming was started in 1996 when the channel was renamed the Odyssey Channel. Hallmark bought Odyssey in November 1998. The channel was officially renamed on August 5, 2001.
Today, Hallmark specializes in airing made-for-television movies and miniseries that were first aired on CBS under the title Hallmark Hall of Fame. Older shows, such as Bonanza, Perry MasonPerry Mason is a fictional defense attorney who originally appeared in novels by Erle Stanley Gardner and who was portrayed by Raymond Burr in a television series which ran on CBS from 1957 to 1966. The general plot involves Perry Mason unmasking the actu, and Quincy, M.E.Quincy, M. or simply Quincy is name of a United States television series that aired October 3, 1976 to May 11, 1983 on NBC. It starred Jack Klugman as Dr. Quincy, a forensic coroner, working to ascertain facts about suspicious deaths. Early season episode are rerun many times a day and replaced the religious programming that aired on the channel for over a decade.
