In organic chemistry, a halogen derivative is a hydrocarbon in which one or more halogen atoms have been subsituted for hydrogen atoms. In naming halogen derivatives, the suffix of the halogen is changed to -o ( fluorine becomes fluoro, chlorine becomes chloro, bromine becomes bromo, and iodine becomes iodo).
