The land of Hyrule, first depicted in The Legend of Zelda, released in July of 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), was the mythical backdrop for the adventures of a boy-to-hero character, Link. Link battles his way through different areas and terrains of Hyrule and through seven levels. Your quest in Hyrule was to rescue the princess Zelda who was being held captive by the evil theif Ganon. Hyrule was the home land of a mystical triangular object known as the Triforce, which was split into three separate pieces for you to recover before Ganon and foil his plans to rule with an iron fist.
In later editions of the Zelda series of games (for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo GameCube) more characters and mysteries of the land of Hyrule were unveiled and explained.
Although the original Legend of Zelda was the first game to depict the land of Hyrule, it was not the first chronologically. A later game in the series, Ocarina of TimeThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a video game released in 1998 and was the first Zelda game created for the Nintendo 64. It was also the first 3D version of the highly successful Legend of Zelda series of video games, and produced by Zelda creator, was set in Hyrule as well, but before the events in the original. The chronologically last Zelda game is Link to the PastThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past released in Japan on November 21, 1991, as Zeruda no Densetsu: Kamigami no Toraifosu literally The Legend of Zelda: Triforce of the Gods , and in North America and Europe in 1992, was the only game in the Zelda seri, according to the "official" word from Miyamoto, not The Adventure of LinkZelda II: The Adventure of Link is a video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, and the second in the Legend of Zelda series of games. Emboldened by the massive, widespread success of the original Legend of Zelda Nintendo envisioned a radically dif as some sources stated. This is not necessarily the only correct timeline theory, though, for Miyamoto himself has stated that he likes to leave certain areas up to the fans themeselves.
Also, it is important to note that as described in , Hyrule was flooded after . The few survivors that remained lived on the remains of Hyrule, which appear to be islands. At the end of the game, Link sails off to find another Golden Land--another Hyrule. Therefore, there may in fact be more than one Hyrule.
Many of the designated areas of Hyrule have traversed through the series, notably The Lost Woods, Death Mountain, and Lake Hylia. Several games in the series take place away from Hyrule: Link's AwakeningThe Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a 1993 video game, originally created for the Game Boy. A colour version, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX was created for the Game Boy Color. The latter is compatible with the Game Boy Printer and features ( Koholint IslandKoholint Island is a fictional dream-isle that is the setting for the video game " Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening" In the course of the game, Link is washed up on shore on the island and found by one of the inhabitants, a girl named Marin. He collects), Majora's MaskThe Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was the second game in the Zelda series released for the Nintendo 64. Though not as popular as its predecessor Ocarina of Time it still sold briskly after its release in 2000. However, one must take into consideration th ( Termina), and Oracle of Ages/ Oracle of Seasons ( Holodrum and Labrynna ). Sometimes, Hyrule may be used to refer to the entire planet that the Zelda series takes place on.
The currency of Hyrule is rupees. It is ruled by a royal family, the key member of which is Princess Zelda.
