1 History

In 1917, Indiana University started offering courses in Fort Wayne to 142 students in 12 courses. At a separate location, Purdue started the Purdue University Center in 1947. The two campuses merged in 1964 and opened a joint location, the present campus, in northeast Fort Wayne on the banks of the St. Joseph River.

With the Mastodon as their mascot, IPFW athletes compete as a NCAA Division IA school in the Mid-American Conference in tennis and the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Otherwise, they are without conference affiliation.
