The Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) is a university and a research and development institution. It is integrated into the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa which also includes the Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária , the Instituto Superior de Agronomia , the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão , the Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas , the Faculdade de Motricidade Humana and the Faculdade de Arquitectura .

IST is comprised of two campus, the Alameda campus located in the heart of Lisbon, and the Tagus Park campus which is located in Oeiras .

History

The Instituto Superior Técnico has its origins in the Instituto Industrial e Comercial de Lisboa , created in the second half of the 19th century, in which future industrial engineers enrolled.
