Foster was born in Los Angeles, California where she attended the exclusive prep school, the Lycée Français de Los Angeles , before going on to Yale University where she earned a BA in Literature, graduating magna cum laude in 1985.
Foster has made more than 50 film appearances and television since the age of eight. She began her career at the age of 2 in television commercials, including an appearance as the Coppertone Girl, and then went on to appear in a variety of television series. In film, at the age of 12, she earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Martin Scorsese's film, Taxi Driver.
