The technique comes from InuYasha's sword, Tetsusaiga. It is also known in the English dub as the Wind Scar.

The attack is accomplished by finding the rift, or scar, between the powerful yokai auras (yoki) of Tessaiga's wielder and the demon being attacked. Once the Wind Scar is found, the wielder of Tessaiga can swing the sword to release a powerful energy wave that has the power to slay 100 yokai in one strike.

When the user becomes proficient enough, they can use the sword's own Kaze no Kizu to call the attack at will.

Built upon this attack is a more powerful attack called Bakuryuha.
