In Unix computing, Kwin is a window manager for the X Window System. It is an integral part of the K Desktop Environment (KDE), although it can be used on its own or with other desktop environments.1 kwm
The first version of KDE window manager was part of KDE 1 and was known as kwm.
2 Kwin 2
The second version of Kwin was introduced in KDE 2.0. Its most notable improvements over the first version were extended support for themes and window effects.
3 Kwin 3
The latest version of Kwin was introduced in KDE 3.2 and has improved support for the extended ICCCM standards from freedesktop.org.
4 Look and feel
There are myriad themes for Kwin, including the default Keramik, Microsoft Windows-like Redmond, and Plastik. IceWM themes can also be used with it.
