Lightweight MTA Authentication Protocol is a generic name for a set of 'designated sender' proposals that were discussed in the ASRG in the Fall of 2003. These include RMX, DMP , SPF, DRIP , MTAMARK and FSV . In March of 2004 the IETF held a BOF on these proposals and as the result of that meeting, chartered a new WG that to continue standardization of these proposals. This WG is called MARID MTA Authorization Records in DNS .

These schemes also known as 'designated sender' attempt to list the valid IP addresses that can send mail for a domain.
