The LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) is a specially trained counter terrorist unit formed by the DMI (Directorate of Military intelligence). They have been very successful in covert operations against the LTTE in the northern and eastern provinces in Sri Lanka. No one knew the existence of LRRP other than very few at the higher echelons of the army until a power struggle inside army exposed it. The LTTE has gunned down almost all of the LRRP members since then. The LRRP is said to be defunct now.
