His career started in 1959, although he had a short story in the Cosmos magazine in 1953. He published three novels with Randy Garrett under the joint pseudonym Mark Phillips. Janifer's best known work is the "Survivor" series comprising of five novels and many short stories; it's about Gerald Knave, whose job is to visit newly opened planets and try to fix the dangers.
Determining Laurence Janifer's true contribution to literature will be a task for determined scholars, due to the many pseudonyms that he used, and the wide range of subjects he wrote about, subjects which includes much non-fiction.
