Matthew Pinsent, CBE, (born October 10, 1970) is a British rowing champion, four-times Olympic gold medallist.

Pinsent was born in Holt, Norfolk, England, and began rowing at Eton College. After rowing at the World Junior Championships in 1987, he was selected in 1990 to row with Steve Redgrave in the coxless pair . This involved taking a year out of his undergraduate studies at the University of Oxford (he studied Geography at St. Catherine's College). It was the beginning of a long partnership, and the pair won the World Championships in 1991, and at the Olympic Games in 1992, 1996 and as part of a coxless four with James CracknellJames Cracknell (born 5 May, 1972) is a British rowing champion and double Olympic gold medallist. Cracknell qualified in the double scull for the 1996 Summer Olympics, but fell ill and was unable to race. In 1997, he won a seat in the men's coxless fours and Tim FosterTim Foster is a british rower. He won a gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympics in the coxless four (with Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell). He currently coaches the University of London Boat Club. Pinsent and Cracknell then formed a men's coxless pair and won the coxless and coxed pairs (with Neil Chugani coxing) in the 2001 World Championships and the coxless pair in 2002, but a disappointing 2003 season that saw his first World Championships defeat since 1991 saw them shifted into the men's coxless four for 2004, in particular the Athens 2004 Olympics, Pinsent's fourth Olympic Games. Pinsent stroked the boat, with Cracknell, Ed CoodeEd Coode (born June 19, 1975) is a British rower, twice World Champion and Olympic Gold medalist. Educated at Eton College, Newcastle University and Oxford University, he rowed in the Oxford crew at the 1998 Boat Race. Coode won his first world championsh and Steve WilliamsSteve Williams (born April 15, 1976) is a British rower and Olympic champion. Williams started rowing aged 13 while at Monkton Combe School, Bath, and attended Oxford Brookes University. In 2000 he was part of the Great Britain team that won the men's cox. In a close race with world Champions Canada, they again won gold.
