Methodological individualism is the belief that the social sciences should be looked primarily from the viewpoint of individual decision makers, as opposed to say statistical analysis (i.e. comparing experimental and control groups of individuals).

One of the best examples of methodological individualism was the defense of logical reasoning by the Austrian School of economics as against the Historical School's promotion of statistical analysis in the Methodenstreit.
