The Middle East Policy Council or MEPC is a Washington DC based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that deals with issues concerning the Middle East. It was founded in 1981 under the stated mission to "expand public discussion and understanding of issues affecting U.S. policy in the Middle East."1 Membership
The MEPC board of directors includes the following individuals:
- President - The Hon. Chas. W. Freeman , Jr. , Ambassador ( U.S. Foreign Service, ret.); former Assistant Secretary of Defense .
- Member - Mr. Robert D. Bauerlein , Vice-president, International Operations, Boeing Company.
- Member - Mr. Curtis Brand , Chairman (ret.), ExxonMobil, Saudi Arabia, Inc.
- Member - Gen. Charles W. Brown , U.S. Army (ret.).
- Member - The Hon. Frank C. Carlucci, Chairman, The Carlyle Group; former U.S. Secretary of Defense.
- Member - Mr. Najeeb Halaby , Attorney at Law; former head, Federal Aviation Administration.
- Member - Dr. Martha Neff Kessler , Consultant, Central Intelligence Agency (ret.)
- Member - The Hon. George McGovern, U.N. Global Ambassador on Hunger; former U.S. Senator (SD).
- Member - Mr. Talat M. OthmanOthman was born in Betunia, Palestine. In 1947 he emigrated to the United States with his family. Joined the board of Harken Energy in 1987 to represent the interests of Abdullah Taha Bakhsh. Served as chair of the three member Audit Committee of which Ge, President, Grove Financial , Inc., Chicago.
