The programme is set in over 1,700 supposedly haunted locations across Great Britain, Ireland and Holland. Each week the show is aired in a different haunted place. Some featured locations have been RAF East Kirby, The Edinburgh vaults, Moresby Hall, and the Clerkenwell House of Detention in London.

There have been several live programmes called 'Most Haunted Live'. In one particular memorable episode the spiritualist medium Derek Acorah was possesed by a supossed evil entity. Whether this was in fact a real paranormal event or whether it was acting on Derek's part, the audience could decide. Some might say this makes the show more interesting.
