NTC is an American book-publishing firm which produces dictionaries and other books to help students learn subjects. They used to be called "National Textbook Company", but because of legal actions taken against them in the southern states by conservative parents, they removed all traces of their former name from all their books. Hence the books begin, "NTC's..." and readers wonder who this group is.
