Nevi'im [נביאים] or Prophets is the second of the three major sections in the Tanakh (the Hebrew Bible).
1 Contents
Nevi'im is traditionally divided into two parts:
- First Prophets or Nevi'im Rishonim [נביאים ראשונים] which contains the narrative books of Joshua through Kings.
- Latter Prophets or Nevi'im Aharonim [נביאים אחרונים], containing prophecies mostly in the form of biblical poetry.
In the Jewish tradition, Samuel and Kings are counted as one book each. In addition, twelve relatively short prophetic books are counted as one; this collection of small books is called Trei Asar or "The Twelve Minor Prophets." ("Minor Prophets" refers to the length of the books, not their importance.) The Jewish tradition thus counts a total of eight books in Nevi'im (out of a total of 24 books in the entire Tanakh):

- 4. ObadiahThe book of Obadiah is a book in the Hebrew Bible; Jewish tradition ascribes authorship of this book to a prophet named Obadiah. It is part of the Bible commonly called the Minor Prophets. This book, which bears the title "The Vision of Obadiah," consists or Ovadyah [עבדיה]
- 5. JonahThe Book of Jonah is a book in the Bible Old Testament and Jewish Tanakh. The book gives an account of the prophet Jonah and the well-known story in which God tells Jonah to prophesy to the people of Nineveh to persuade it to repent or face destruction. or Yonah [יונה]
- 6. MicahThe Book of Micah is a book of the Bible Old Testament and Jewish Tanakh. Micah was the sixth of the minor prophets. The superscription to this book states that the prophet exercised his office in the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. If we reckon fro or Mikhah [מיכה]
- 7. NahumThe book of Nahum is a book in the Bible's Old Testament and Jewish Tanakh. Nahum prophesied, according to some, in the beginning of the reign of Ahaz ( 740s BC). Others, however, think that his prophecies are to be referred to the latter half of the reig or Nachum [נחום]
- 8. HabakkukThe book of Habakkuk is a book of the Bible Old Testament and Jewish Tanakh. It was presumably written by Habakkuk probably about B. 650-627, or a few years later. This book consists of three chapters, the contents of which are thus comprehensively descri or Habaquq [חבקוק]
- 9. Zephaniah or Tsefania [צפניה]
- 10. HaggaiThe Book of Haggai is a book in the Bible Old Testament and Jewish Tanakh, written by the prophet Haggai. It consists of two brief, comprehensive chapters. The object of the prophet was generally to urge the people to proceed with the rebuilding of the se or Haggai [חגי]
