Home > OpenMosix


openMosix is a free cluster management system that provides single-system image (SSI) capabilities, e.g. automatic work distribution among nodes. It is particularly useful for running parallel and intensive I/O applications. It is released as a Linux kernel patch, but is also available on specialized LiveCDs and as a Gentoo Linux kernel choice.

OpenMosix is currently considered stable on the x86 architecture, support for the AMD64 architecture is also planned.

OpenMosix currently works with the Linux 2.4 and porting is under way to the Linux 2.6.

It was started by Moshe Bar on February 10, 2002, as a response to MOSIX becoming proprietary software.
