The Amstrad PC-1512 was Amstrad's mostly IBM-PC compatible home computer system. Two basic models were available, the PC1512 with 512k RAM and the 1640 with 640k RAM. The 1512 could be upgraded to 640k RAM with an expansion pack.
Either model shipped with either two 5.25" floppy drives, or a single 5.25" floppy drive and a hard drive (typically around 20MB). The hard drive made particular noises which are often fondly remembered by PC1512 or 1640 users.
Amstrad licensed MS-DOS 3.2 and DOSPLUS, which included some features from CP/M and the ability to read CP/M disks. They also licensed the GEM windowing system, which supported the customized CGA hardware of the 1512 and 1640.
The CPU of both machines was an Intel 8086.
