Neighboring oblasts and republics are (from north clockwise) Komi, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Bashkortostan, Udmurtia, Kirov Oblast and the Autonomous district of the Komi-Permyaks.
After a referendum held in 2004 Perm Oblast may be merged with the Autonomous district of the Komi-Permyaks to form a Perm Krai, which is scheduled to come into existence on December 1, 2005.
