Plural is a grammatical number, typically referring to more than one of the referent in the real world.

In the English language, singular and plural are the only grammatical numbers.

In English, nouns, pronouns, and demonstratives inflect for plurality. (See English plural.) In many other languages, for example German, Romance languages, and Esperanto, articles and adjectives also inflect for plurality. For example, in the English sentence "the brown cats run," only the noun and verb are inflected; but in the French sentence "les chats bruns courent," every word (article, noun, adjective, and verb) is inflected.

In some languages including Sanskrit, Biblical Hebrew and Inuktitut there is also a dual numberDual is the grammatical number used for two referents. Relatively few languages have the dual number. Most have no number or only singular and plural. In some languages, in addition to the singular and plural there is also a dual which is used when exactl (two objects). Some other grammatical numbers present in various languages include nullar (no objects), trial (three objects) and paucalIn linguistics, paucal is a number that specifies 'a few' things. This is in contrast to singular (1 thing), dual (2 things), trial (3 things), plural (many things), collective (a set of things), singulative plural (one thing composed from many pieces). (a few objects). In languages with dual, trial, or paucal numbers, plural refers to numbers higher than those (i.e. more than two, more than three, or many.)

However, numbers besides singular, plural, and to a lesser extent dual, are extremely rare. Furthermore, many languages (such as all members of the CJKCJK can also stand for Centre Jeunes Kamenge''. CJK is a collective term for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, which comprise the largest of East Asian languages. The term is used in the field of software and communications internationalization. The term CJK group) lack any significant grammatical number at all. JapaneseThe Japanese language is a spoken and written language used mainly in Japan. The Japanese name for the language is Nihongo . History and classification Historical linguists do not all agree about the origin of the Japanese language; there are several comp has plural forms only on some pronouns.
