Point Barrow, is the northernmost point of Alaska and of the United States, on the Arctic Ocean, 15 km (9 miles) northeast of Barrow, Alaska, at 71°23' North 156°30' West. It was discovered for Europeans in 1825 by Frederick William Beechey and named for Sir John Barrow, a statesman and geographer in the British Admiralty.Navigation around the Point is ice-free for only two or three months a year.
