Flanders is a region within Belgium, but has some major power to decide on itself. There is a Flemish Parliament and a Flemish Governement . the judicial powers reside on the federal layer, i.e. Belgium.

Since 19 july 2004, the prime minister of Flanders is Yves Leterme ( CD&V), leading a coalition of CD&V- NV-A, VLD- Vivant, and SP.A- Spirit.
