The Pomona Freeway is the segment of California State Highway 60 between its western terminus at the East Los Angeles Interchange and the interchange of the Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Escondido Freeways in Riverside, where CA-60 continues on the Moreno Valley Freeway. It runs through Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, traversing the southern San Gabriel and Pomona valleys. It runs roughly parallel to the busy San Bernardino Freeway for much of its length, and is thus a major east-west route for commuters and freight between the Los Angeles Basin and the rapidly growing Inland Empire. In particular, it has become increasingly clogged of late with shipping container-laden trucks travelling from the ports of Los Angeles and Long BeachLong Beach is a city located in southern Los Angeles County, California, on the Pacific coast. It is one of the busiest sea ports in the world. Its location is 33°47' North, 118°10' West, about 20 miles (30 km) south of downtown Los Angeles. The eastern portions of the Pomona Freeway are notoriously foul-smelling, due to the presence of large dairy cattle, chicken, and hog farms in southwestern San Bernardino and northwestern Riverside counties.
