Predator's Gold is a book by Philip Reeve. It is the sequel to the bestselling Mortal Engines.
The story starts when Tom and Hester Shaw meet Professor Pennyroyal, who claims that he discovered the Dead Continent America. They are later flying in their airship the "Jenny Haniver" when they are pursued by the airships of the Green Storm. The Green Storm is a fanatical splinter group of the Anti-Traction League. They hate all Traction cities and want to exterminate them. The Jenny Haniver stumbles on to the ice Traction city of Anchorage just in time. They meet Queen Freya who rules Anchorage. But the city has suffered from a terrible plague that has reduced its population to just 50 people. Queen freya believes Pennyroyal's story of a green America and decides to set a course for the Dead Continent. But there are rumours of ghosts in the city and things have disappeared. But the culprits are actually a group of pirates known as the Lost Boys. Meanwhile, Freya falls in love with Tom and Hester Shaw becomes jealous. She decides to betray Anchorage to the predator Traction City Arkangel. She goes there and persuades the director's son Masgard to go after Anchorage. She later gets captured by agents of the Green Storm who take her to their base. The Green Storm commander Sathya reveals to Hester that she is Valentine's daughter and blames her and Tom for the murder of Anna Fang . She later takes Hester to a place where Anna Fang is. But she is not herself and has been made into a Stalker. The Stalker keeps insisting that she is not Anna Fang. Meanwhile, Tom is saddened that his girlfriend has left him. But he does not know that the Lost Boys have been spying on Tom and Hester with their crabcams. They later capture him and bring him to their headquarters which is within a sunken Traction city. Their leader, known as Uncle, helps Tom to rescue Hester Shaw. But at the base, they do escape on the Jenny Haniver and return to Anchorage. Meanwhile Anchorage has been captured by an Arkangel airship. The city is at the mercy of their attackers but Tom and Hester Shaw come in time and rescue the city. Hester kills Masgard without any mercy. Professor Pennyroyal is discovered to be a fraud and he deserts the city and flees in the Jenny Haniver. Anchorage then manages to escape with Arkangel in pursuit. But Arkangel sinks to the surface while Anchorage gets to the Dead Continent. In the end, the Dead Continent is discovered to be fertile again.
