A Primary Domain Controller (PDC) is a concept used in Microsoft Windows NT server operating systems whereby a user may be granted access to a number of computer resources with the use of a single username and password combination. In later releases of Windows, such as Windows 2000, it has been superceded by Active Directory.

Every Windows NT server needs to be connected to a PDC of some description. In a single-server setup, the PDC can exist on the same machine as the server. This PDC can then control grant or deny access to other resources on other computers, or even on other domains, provided the system is setup accordingly.

PDC has been faithfully recreated on the Samba emulation of Microsoft's SMB client/server system.
