Public Editor is an editorial position established by The New York Times in response to the Jayson Blair scandal. The job of the Public Editor is to critique the practices, standards and culture of the newspaper, to identify and examine critical errors and omissions, and to act as a liason to the public. The current Public Editor is Daniel Okrent, who has worked as an editor for TIME, Life Magazine and New England Monthly .
