Prior to embarking on a full-time career as an MC, Francis was a noted slam poet. Francis also fronted the Providence hip-hop band Art Official Intelligence (later known as AOI) in the late 1990s.
His commercially released albums include Personal Journals ( Anticon Records, 2002) and Hope (Lex Records, 2003; released under the name Non-Prophets, a collaboration between Francis and producer Joe Beats). Between 2000 and 2004, Francis self-released a series of compilation discs (Sick of Waiting Tables, Still Sick...Urine Trouble, Sick of Waging War, and Sickly Business).
Francis's best-known track is "Makeshift Patriot", a commentary about the political implications of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Francis signed a three-album deal with Epitaph Records in 2003.
His most socially relevant album, A Healthy Distrust, will be released on February 8, 20052005 is a common year starting on Saturday (link will take you to calendar).
